If you follow me on twitter @capitoloutdoors you know that I was up early this morning heading to Southwind Park for the annual Spring trout release. Each year, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources releases thousands of fish. In fact, 60,000 pounds of fish at 43 locations across the State of Illinois. Each Spring thousands of anglers look forward to this great experience. To legally take trout, anglers need to purchase an inland trout stamp for $6.50. This is an electronic stamp that can be purchased at the same time as your fishing license at any sporting goods store. There are exceptions to not having to purchase the stamp; for instance being under the age of 16; blind or disabled; or an Illinois resident on leave from active duty in the Armed Forces. Don't forget the daily limit is five trout. It's because of you, the angler that the IL DNR has the funds to release trout.
Anglers from around Central Illinois came to Southwind Park to try their fly fishing, casting and just all around skills out. On this cloudy and windy day, our fish were caught using Berkley's Power Bait on the bottom. I must say, that this years trout were large and fought well. Heather, caught some jumbo ones and everyone seemed to be having a good time!!!
