5 Tips to Build up your Tackle Box

When we were first establishing Capitol Outdoors we wrote an article about how expensive fishing gear was, then a few weeks later we wrote an article about What Fishing Line to Use.  Fishing like everything else has evolved... the gear, lures, boat etc.  It is an ever-changing industry.

With that evolution, prices of gear continue to skyrocket.  This ends up putting a financial strain on individuals especially new anglers who enjoy the outdoors but can't afford to keep up with their "want list". We're guilty of this as well.  Whenever we go into a store, we "buy" cartloads of gear but by the end of the trip we usually put everything back.  We realize that we aren't millionaires! It wasn't until we went to a few fishing shows that we found a way to bulk up our tackle box without putting a financial burden on ourselves.

Capitol Outdoors shops everywhere for fishing gear.  Walmart, bait shops, Bass Pro, Scheels,  the list could go on.  I usually get a nice laugh in when I see people carrying a basket around filled with plastics and crank baits.

Here are 5 tips to start building your tackle box:

Multiple Stores
 Having multiple stores where you can check is a great start.  Going to the same store over and over is pointless.  You may find some good deals every now and then but, checking multiple stores will increase your odds.  Big box stores usually have a fishing section, but of course you already know that.  Make sure you continually check back.   Stores put items on discount all the time.  This seems like common sense but we've heard from so many people that only shop from one store.

Off Season Discounts

Once you have your stores picked out the best time to check is during off seasons.  For example, the best time to look for ice fishing gear is early spring.  The season is over and all the stores are trying to make room for the upcoming fishing seasons.  This also applies to hunting gear as well. 

Natural Colors
If you are starting out and don't have a lot of gear the best baits you can get are natural colors.  Greens, blacks, blues, shad colors are the best to begin with.  With crank baits and other swimming baits make sure those are natural colors as well.   

One Here and There
Have you seen how much crank baits are these days.  Some of them  go up to $15.  Unless you buy multiple crank baits at once, this is not  a huge burden.  Again, the best thing to do is to shop around.

Best Deals
If you're reading this then that means you have access to a computer.  Lurepartsonline.com is a great place for cheap fishing gear.  They are a wholesaler of items across the country.  Also with social media and the online avenue there are hundreds of small companies that sell plastics and jigs.  Look into these small companies for great products at a decent cost.
