Illinois Free Fishing Days

Illinois Free Fishing Days

Free Fishing DaysMany of us are fortunate enough to be able to spend time fishing, hunting and enjoying the great outdoors.  We're all not so lucky.  Weather its work or another disruption, we're not able to spend the time outside that we would like.  In a recent article 3 Facts every Illinois Hunter and Angler needs to know we mentioned that they average angler gets out about 13 times a year.  Some people have never been out.  Could you imagine... No fishing during the summer? I'd go crazy.

If you've been unable to get out fishing this year this weekend is your chance. June 5-8th is Illinois Free Fishing Days, that means that you don't need a fishing license to go and fish.
This is also a great opportunity to introduce someone to fishing.  Bring some sandwiches, soda and enjoy the great outdoors.  All it takes is teaching them the basics and they'll be "hooked" no pun intended.

"I don't have a fishing pole".  Don't worry...in order to try and get more people interested in fishing the state has loaner equipment at several state facilities.  Read about that and other programs the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in there press release about Illinois Free Fishing Days.

Remember if you plan to fish after this weekend you'll need to get a license.  "Revenue raised help fund three state fish hatcheries, IDNR fisheries staff and related conservation and education efforts".  With today's technology there's no excuse not to have a license.  You can purchase one now right here.

This weekend is a time to make some memories.  Don't forget to send in your photos and share them with us.
