Capitol Outdoors' Adventure on Lake Springfield

In 2014 Capitol Outdoors purchased our first aluminum boat and a whole new world opened up to us.  Over the past year we've been going to lakes with mostly trolling motor or 10 horsepower limits simply because we only had a trolling motor.  That's all about to change with our 1972, 15 horsepower Johnson on the back.

When we bought the boat it came with an outboard engine.  Needless to say the carburetor needed some work and it also needed a new propeller.  It wasn't until just recently we got it back and began using it.  We learned the in's and outs of the outboard on smaller lakes such as Jim Edgar Panther Creek and Spring Lake.

Lake Springfield was the first lake that was wide open with no weeds that would allow me to use the full throttle and see how our boat handles on larger waters.  I launched the boat, parked the Jeep and got in.

Bass at Lake SpringfieldAs Capitol Outdoors departed the No Wake Zone, we opened the throttle.  Taking a little time to get onto plane we were off to our fishing spot.  We took a fifteen minute boat ride across the lake enjoying the early morning smells.  While crossing the lake it was hard not to think about all the spots that looked like good fishing.

As time passed, traffic increased and with all the "googans" (weekend warriors) out, fishing was difficult.  However, we still managed to catch one.  This trip wasn't about how many fish we caught, but rather about taking a cruise around the lake in the boat.  When you've spent a lot of your fishing on shore being
bitten by bugs, you have an appreciation for a boat.  Having your own really does make a world of difference.  Doesn't matter if you have a 10 footer or a 21 foot bass boat.   You're in the club. You can read more about our boat in our article  Small Aluminum Boat Restoration Part 1.
