Illinois Hunting Season is Underway

Dove Hunting

Illinois Hunting Season Underway

If you had to put a date on when hunting season begins, what would you say?  For many, September begins the hunting season,  and Capitol Outdoors is among those people.  Yesterday, we tried our luck at dove hunting.

With temperatures in the high 80s low 90s our top priority was keeping fluid in both us and the dog.  Last year, Linc went on his first dove hunt and is ready for the 2015 - 2016 hunting season.  Already passing his first  portion of the started hunt test, Linc took the field again.  And did a great job retrieving our birds.

We managed to scrap out two, missing a few times, but like one gentleman said.  "You're hunting dove not 'flough flough' birds."  Dove started showing up after 2:30, but already being in the field for over two hours we decided to call it quits and be content with the two.  It was not worth the risk to keep the dog in the heat. Remember it is important to know your dog and to see when he has had enough.

For us, this trip was about getting out that first day.  There will be many more trips to come, this is only the beginning of what we hope to be a promising year.

With dove, early goose already underway and teal season approaching the Illinois hunting season has begun.  Remember there have been some changes in regulations.  Read about Illinois Hunting Policy Rules and Regulations here.
