Illinois Waterfowl Season - Central Zone Opener Starts Tomorrow

It's finally here, the central zone opener for waterfowl.  We are really excited to be getting this years season off to a start.  Yes, we went out teal hunting, but the hot weather in early September kept most of the teal away from us. Some places, like the walk-in units at Carlye, did well.  However, both our dove and teal season were slower then what we would have liked.

For many of us tomorrow is like Christmas morning.  Regardless, if you're in the field, a blind or in a boat, being out there is all we've been wanting for since last season. Remember to double check that you have everything, set that alarm and get ready. Our season never really ends at Capitol Outdoors because we're always buying, fixing and strategizing for next year regardless if its hunting or fishing.  At least now, we'll be able to do some of that in the blind. 

Our hunting buddies in deep southern Illinois are grinding their teeth in anticipation for their opening day, a few more weeks away.  For those of you who are in this boat don't forget about our 7 Tips to Prepare for Waterfowl Season.

Our biggest issue was which dog to bring on opening morning.  We've decided to take Linc for his first ever opening day hunt.  While Linc doesn't have the experience Reagan does, we're hoping that all the training we've done in the off season allows him to have a successful hunt.  However, we'll have to hit the birds first.

While out, don't forget it's supposed to be fun.  Remember it's the first weekend of the season so there will be plenty of opportunities to take some birds.  This being the first time a lot of us will be in the field, don't forget about the safety factor.  Issues are going to arise that you didn't foresee.  It may be a boat issue or something worse.  Take your time and fix anything that comes up issue by issue.
