Eagle Day Gives Bird's Eye View of American Icon; Live Demo of Birds of Prey

The Nature Conservancy sent a press release and asked Capitol Outdoors to share this opportunity with all of you.  While we have never partaken in this event, ere's nothing quite like watching a Bald Eagle sore through the sky.  

Eagle Day Gives Bird's Eye View of American Icon; Live Demo of Birds of Prey

Communities, conservation, research and animal groups plan day-long festivities

LEWISTOWN, Ill. -- Family-friendly Eagle Day events will be held at The Nature Conservancy's Emiquon Preserve and other locations on February 6, 2016. Admission is free at all of the events.

See some of the more than 200 eagles at the Emiquon Preserve Visitor Use Observatories where spotting scopes will be provided for eagle and bird watching along with hot cocoa, a warming station and displays. Additionally the University of Illinois at Springfield's Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon will provide a microscopic view of Emiquon. Events will be from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (weather permitting).

Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge: 

View eagles and other wildlife from the viewing platforms at Chautauqua’s headquarters nature trail, Eagle Bluff Access Area, Roundtree Nature Trail and Goofy Ridge Access Area sunrise to sunset.

Havana, IL: 

World Bird Sanctuary presents “Raptor Awareness,” at the New Central Gymnasium 127 E Jefferson Street. Several birds of prey will be on display during live raptor shows at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Admission is free. The Illinois Natural History Survey’s Traveling Science Center and children’s activities will also be available from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Lewistown, IL: 

This year’s festivities include access to Lewistown Visitor Center where Wildlife Prairie Parkwill exhibit live Birds of Prey providing visitors an opportunity to see a variety of birds such as hawks, eagles, and owls from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

This event is co-sponsored by City of Lewistown, Forbes Biological Station, Fulton County Arts Council, Havana Park District, Illinois Natural History Survey, Illinois River Biological Station, Mason County Arts Council, The Nature Conservancy, Therkildsen Field Station and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
