I had the privileged to take a buddy I met via facebook out on a hunt. This compared to all my other hunts was a little different because Nate had spina bifida. His passion and dedication to the outdoors surpasses many that say the love the outdoors. However, it took some doing but we finally were able to find a place to go. If you know someone that has a disability please share this with them. They may only get a few opportunities a year to enjoy the great outdoors.
Special Firearm Deer Hunt for Persons with Disabilities at Johnson-Sauk Trail State Recreation Area on Nov. 2 and 3
Hunters can apply through October 20
Prospective hunters may apply for the hunt by contacting the Hennepin Canal State Trail site office at815-454-2328 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through October 20.
A total of 12 permits are available for the hunt. Each eligible hunter may be accompanied by one non-hunting partner/guardian to assist with the hunt. If more than 12 hunters apply, a lottery drawing will be conducted. Successful applicants will be notified, must show their P2A card, and must purchase their permit for the hunt at the Johnson-Sauk Trail Lake marina the morning of their hunt.
Johnson-Sauk Trail State Recreation Area will be closed to other park users during the two-day special firearm deer hunt on November 2 and 3.
