IDNR Seeks Waterfowl Hunters for Macoupin County Public Access Site
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Looking for a place to duck hunt? Look no further than the Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP). Through an agreement with a private landowner, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has secured a waterfowl hunting site through IRAP and is making it available to licensed hunters for the months of November and December.
This site has three 4-man blinds, is wadable, and is located on a large wetland in Macoupin County in central Illinois. To use the site, prospective hunters must fill out an application, sign a liability waiver, and send it to IRAP via email or regular mail. The application can be found on the IDNR website at:

Hunting sites are assigned for a five-day period to each hunter or group. If a group of hunters (up to four) apply, they must send in their applications together. There is limited availability, and hunting opportunities will be available on a first-come, first-served basis with youth hunters getting preference.
The IRAP program, funded by a Voluntary Public Access Habitat Improvement Program grant from the federal Farm Bill, leases property from private landowners and makes in available to the public. Waterfowl hunting along with small game, archery deer and spring turkey hunting, and fishing are available. Currently, IRAP has leased nearly 19,000 acres in 49 Illinois counties for the public to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.
